Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest


The Trempealeau County Department of Land Management held the Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest on January 10th, 2018 at the Courthouse, in Whitehall, WI. The Speaking Contest was sponsored by the Trempealeau County Environment and Land Use Committee. A total of 10 speeches were entered in the Elementary Division – Grades 5 & 6. The speakers were able to select a topic anything related to conservation. The speeches in their age group had to be between 3 and 5 minutes in length and were judged on content, delivery and style.

Serving as judges were: George Brandt, Environment and Land Use Committee Chair, Tim Zeglin, Retired High School English Teacher and Forensic Coach, and Kirstie Heidenreich, Planning and Conservation Specialist.

The first place Elementary Speaker, move on to the Western Area Speaking Contest to be held in Viroqua on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018.

The first place speaker, Oliver Remus with his winning speech, "Nutrient Management." The second place speaker is Thomas Ziegler with his speech, "Cover Crops." The third place winner is Nathanael Sorenson with his speech, "Environmental Effects of Sand Mines in Trempealeau County."
