Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest

 

The Trempealeau County Department of Land Management held the Conservation Awareness Speaking Contest on January 11th, 2017 at the Courthouse, in Whitehall, WI. The Speaking Contest was sponsored by the Trempealeau County Environment and Land Use Committee. A total of 5 speeches were entered in the Elementary Division - Grades 5 & 6. The speakers were able to select a topic anything related to conservation. The speeches in their age group had to be between 3 and 5 minutes in length and were judged on content, delivery and style. And the Junior Division - Grades 7 & 8 had 2 speeches presented. Their speeches were required to be 5-8 minutes in length.

Serving as judges were: Mrs. Sara Ecker, Apple Connesouir and Conservation Enthusiast, Mr. Tim Zeglin, Retired High School English Teacher and Forensic Coach, and Kirstie Heidenreich, Farmland Preservation Specialist.

The first place Elementary Speaker, Vaida Goplin with her winning speech, "Attack of Wild Parsnip" and the first place Junior speaker, Kelly Jo Herness with her winning speech "Trees, We Need Them and They Need Us" move on to the Western Area Speaking Contest to be held in Viroqua on Tuesday, January 31st, 2017.
