Vacation eligibility shall be determined on the basis of length of continuous service with the County. Employees regularly scheduled forty (40) or more hours per week shall be entitled to full vacation benefits. Employees regularly scheduled twenty (20) to thirty-nine (39) hours per week shall be entitled to vacation benefits on a pro-rata basis based upon the actual number of hours compensated. Temporary, limited term, seasonal, and employees regularly scheduled less than twenty (20) hours per week shall not be eligible for vacation benefits.

Vacation shall accrue each pay period, but employees may not carry over more than 240 vacation hours at the end of each calendar year; however, the maximum accumulation of vacation may exceed 240 hours during the calendar year. Any vacation balance over 120 hours at the end of the calendar year will be forfeited. Employees with hire dates prior to 1/1/2013 will have until 1/1/2018 to reduce their vacation balance at an annual reduction rate of no less than 20% each year to a maximum of 120 hours. Vacation not reduced at this rate will result in forfeited time.

When an employee retires, terminates, or is discharged after completing the introductory period, he/she shall receive a lump sum payment for all accrued and unused vacation on the first payroll following completion of the last pay period in which the employee worked. Payment shall be based on the rate of pay received at the time of separation. When an employee retires,* they may use up to four work weeks of vacation beyond their last day worked and an employee who voluntarily terminates employment without retiring* may use up to two work weeks of vacation beyond their last day worked, provided the use of vacation does not extend the employment relationship beyond the end of the month in which the employee last performed work for the County.
