Civic Duty

  1. JURY DUTY
Trempealeau County encourages employees to fulfill their civic responsibilities by serving jury duty when required. Employees must show the jury duty summons to their supervisor as soon as possible so the supervisor can make arrangements to accommodate their absence. Employees are expected to report to work any hours that are not spent on jury duty. Employees are required to return to work following jury duty, unless excused by their department head.
  2. EMT/ FIRST RESPONDER/ VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER
Trempealeau County encourages employees to participate in civic services and permits an employee who is a volunteer fire fighter, emergency medical technician or first responder to be late for or absent from work if the lateness or absence is due to the employee responding to an emergency that begins before the employee is required to report to work or is during the course of work, as further outlined in Wis. Stat § 103.88. To the extent practicable, the employee is required to inform his/her immediate supervisor of such lateness or absence prior to the lateness or absence. Employees must use their personal vehicles and are expected to report back to work promptly after response is completed.
  3. COMPENSATION FOR CIVIC DUTY: Employees will be paid their regular rate of pay during time spent while performing such civic duty. No employee will be paid for more than one shift per day. Employees will not be eligible to calculate such compensation for the purposes of overtime. Hours not actually spent in the performance of such civic duty will not be compensated.
