The Zoning Department is responsible for development and enforcement of ordinances and programs that preserve and protect the health, safety, welfare and quality of life of residents. The Zoning Department receives it authority to regulate land use from Wisconsin State Statutes 59.69 and local ordinances adopted by the County Board.

Zoning is the regulation of land. For property throughout the county zoning specifies the permitted and prohibited uses of the property and the intensity, size and density of buildings on the land. Remember as with other laws, it is the responsibility of landowners to be aware of zoning regulations. Land Use Districts

In 1972 the Trempealeau County Board of Supervisors adopted a Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance for Trempealeau County. All fifteen Towns in Trempealeau County adopted the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, therefore the entire county is zoned.

The Trempealeau County Zoning Department and Trempealeau County Board of Supervisors does not have zoning authority over the city and villages within Trempealeau County. Incorporated municipal jurisdictions (city's and village's) are authorized by Wisconsin State Statutes to adopt and regulate land use regulations within their own jurisdictions.
