Underage Drinking Citations

 

ADVANTAGES OF ENROLLING IN THE UNDERAGE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM

First Offense: No fine, No suspension, No reinstatement fee, $100.00 Group Fee, Conviction imposed

Second Offense: No fine, 30-day driver’s license suspension, $60.00 Reinstatement fee, Conviction imposed, Complete AODA assessment and follow recommendations, Treatment fees and assessment fees are mandatory

Third or Subsequent Offense: No alternative program available

 

HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE UNDERAGE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM?

FIRST OFFENSE:

●  Contact the Clerk of Courts Office to complete an Underage Program Guilty Plea Form.
     If the form is completed prior to the court date, you will not need to appear.

●  After you plea guilty, we will provide you with the form to sign up for the Underage Alternative
    Program.  It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to call and register for the Underage Alternative 
    Program.  You will be required to pay the $100 participation fee. Failure to pay before the group
    session will result in ineligibility for the program and you will receive the standard penalties.

●  Attend the Underage Alternative Program. Family involvement and attendance is  strongly 
    recommended. (No additional cost for family involvement).

●  Group sessions are held the fourth Wednesday of every month, beginning promptly at 5:00 p.m.
    and ending at 8:00 p.m.

●  Failure to satisfactorily complete the recommended plan will result in the court suspending your
    driver’s license and imposing a fine plus court costs in addition to any costs you may have
    already incurred.

 

SECOND OFFENSE:

●  Contact the Clerk of Courts Office to complete an Underage Program Guilty Plea Form. If the
    form is completed prior to the court date, you will not need to appear.

●  After you plea guilty, we will provide you with the form to sign up for the Underage Alternative
    Program.  It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to call and register for the Underage Alternative Program
    – AODA assessment. (Let them know you are requesting an assessment for underage drinking)
    You will be required to pay the $120 participation fee. Failure to pay before the group session will
    result in ineligibility for the program and you will receive the standard penalties.

●  Failure to satisfactorily complete the recommended plan will result in the court suspending your
    driver’s license and imposing a fine plus court costs in addition to any costs you may have 
    already incurred.

 

WHAT IF I DO NOT APPEAR IN COURT OR PLEA GUILTY?

●  You will be found guilty by default and will be required to pay a fine.

●  Your driver’s license (or your right to obtain a driver’s license) will be suspended.

If you receive another alcohol related citation while participating in any portion of this
         program, you will be disqualified from the program and penalties will be imposed. You will
         not be eligible for this program on any subsequent offense.
