TREMPEALEAU COUNTY TEEN COURT

================================================================

The Trempealeau County Teen Court has been holding court since November of 1997.

Trempealeau County Teen Court held two training sessions for the 2001-2002 Teen Court Judges on September 13th and September 20th in the Trempealeau County Courthouse.  Twenty-nine Juniors and Seniors from the seven area school districts learned how the juvenile justice system worked, where Teen Court falls into that process, and the skills needed to be a Teen Court Judge.  Fred Berns, the Juvenile Court Commissioner, took the Judges through two mock trails.  They participated as defendants, parents and judges so they had the opportunity to practice their skills.  Near the end of the training Judge Damon came in and administered the oath of office to the Teen Court Judges.  Teen Court has been operating in Trempealeau County since 1997.  It provides an opportunity for the first time eligible offender, ages 12 to 17, to identify and repair the harm that their actions caused while maintaining a clear record.
