Under the direction of the Trempealeau County Environment and Land Use Committee (E & LU), the Department of Land Management (DLM) implements and administers County and State of Wisconsin Soil and Water Conservation Programs.

The DLM provides information and assistance to the public in the development of soil and water conservation plans. Technical assistance and some cost sharing payments are provided through the department.

Programs that the DLM administers include the Animal Waste Management Ordinance, Conservation Aids, Farmland Preservation, Feedlot Performance Standards Ordinance, Land and Water Resource Management Program, Middle Trempealeau River Priority Watershed Project, Upper Trempealeau River NR-120 Watershed Project, Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims, and the Wildlife Habitat Tree & Shrub Program.
